Review: Sempiternal - Bring Me The Horizon

Author: Tori

Bring Me The Horizon's latest release Sempiternal was set to release on April 1st but after leaking online over a month early, the band shared it from start to finish on YouTube. Major BMTH fanatics and music bloggers around the world were psyched after hearing the news.

Since they signed to a major record label, several people predicted that this release would be more radio friendly. Although I don't think they strayed far from their heavy roots, it is certainly a new direction for them. Don't worry, if you are a fan of Bring Me The Horizon classics like Suicide Season or There Is A Hell Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Heaven Let's Keep It A Secret, they delivered a familiar vibe on tracks like "Anti-Vist" and "Empire (Let Them Sing)". BMTH weren't fearful to experiment, take risks, and try new things; I loved their use of keyboards and synths on songs like "Can You Feel My Heart" and "Sleepwalking". In fact, the intro to "Can You Feel My Heart" is one of my favorite moments of the entire album.

I think what makes this record so impressive is the fact that they paid so much attention to detail; every note is refined and polished to perfection. Listening to Sempiternal with earphones is a necessity so you can hear every layer. I also applaud them for strategically and tastefully placing the breakdowns. Aside from taking their instrumentals to the next level, Oliver Sykes' vocals have also improved tremendously. His screams are stronger, he successfully showed off his clean vocals, and he combined both skills for a unique sound. Sykes pushed himself on this record; his vocal range has extended to reach new heights. I felt his emotion in every song; it was nearly tear jerking at times.

Bring Me The Horizon is already a massive band but it is safe to say that Sempiternal is going to launch their career even further. It is already receiving major buzz and it hasn't even been officially released yet.  If you don’t think BMTH is your cup of tea you should listen to Sempiternal, you might be surprised. You can listen to Sempiternal HERE or pick up a copy on April 1st!
